National Poultry and Food Distributors Association Scholarship Foundation Seeking Applicants

The National Poultry & Food Distributors Association Scholarship Foundation awards five $4,000 scholarships to students in the fields of poultry science, food science, agricultural economics/marketing, food marketing and all other areas of study related to the poultry and food industry.

Each applicant must:

• Be a college junior or senior during the upcoming school year 
• Be enrolled as a full-time student 
• Be pursuing a poultry or related agricultural degree, i.e. Agricultural Business, Poultry Science, Food Science, Animal Science, Food Marketing, Ag. Econ, and other related business and agricultural degrees. 
• Provide his or her sealed official transcript. Must be the official Transcript and stamped for authentication. 
• Provide a letter of recommendation from his or her Dean, Department Head, and/or advisor. 
• Complete the application 
• Provide a one-page letter describing his or her goals and aspirations 

In late spring, the scholarship committee will review all applicants. The scholarship winners are chosen based on their aspirations, extra-curricular activities, as well as their academic progress. Winners will be contacted via phone call in July. Everyone else will receive an email.

University of Florida College of Medicine Seeking Laboratory Technologist

The University of Florida's College of Medicine is seeking applicants for a Laboratory Technologist in the Department of Pediatrics. This is an excellent opportunity to become a part of a research team to investigate pathogenesis and therapies for devastating lysosomal diseases of children, for which no treatments are currently available.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform experiments related to validation and characterization of small molecules regulating pathogenic cascades in lysosomal diseases
• Conduct studies aimed at discovery of novel therapies for these diseases, such as validation of the candidate compounds from the prior high-throughput screens by using primary cells from different patients and animal models

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Bachelor�s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of relevant experience 
• Appropriate college coursework may substitute the required experience

We will provide necessary training, but we expect the technician to have initial experience in some of the following areas:

• Fluorescence microscopy, tandem spectroscopy, liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
• Tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, such as molecular cloning, transfection, RNA isolation, and Northern blotting
• Experience in murine models, including behavioral assessments, breeding, perfusion, histology, and immunohistochemistry
• Some knowledge of software packages such as GraphPad, Excel, PubChem, Image J, PDB,
• Familiarity with concepts of parametric and non-parametric statistics
• Protein techniques (enzyme kinetics, subcellular fractionation, immunoblotting, cell microscopy)

Because of the nature of this work, schedule flexibility is required.

Sombrero Stables Seeking Summer Interns

Sombrero is one of the largest guest horse operations in the country, currently running about 1500 head of horses. Sombrero has been around for over 50 years and is still owned by the same family. Each year, several stables hire people from around the country to come spend a summer in Colorado working with horses. Each stable takes guests on trail rides in the Rocky Mountains and maintains a herd of up to 150 horses at a time. This is an excellent opportunity for students interested in a summer job or an internship. 

Most wranglers stay for about a 90 day period over the summer months. There is an opportunity for a few wranglers to stay for a year. Additionally, wranglers are need for the spring semester to start working right away.

This job requires horse knowledge and solid experience, and a love of working with people. It is hard work and long hours, but it is very rewarding. If you are someone who loves horses, people, and working outside you should consider applying.

POSITIONS AVAILABLE 

• Employees of the company are involved with all aspects of a stable operation. Including, but not limited to: 
• Leading trail rides
• Riding horses of different levels of difficulty
• All maintenance and cleaning duties associated with a stable
• Grooming and feeding procedures
• Saddling and unsaddling of horses
• Full range of daily customer contact

PAY RATES 

• The pay includes a monthly salary plus your room and board
• If you complete your contract you receive a season bonus
• The other form of income is "tips" from the guests on the trail rides
• The total income from this obviously hinges a great deal on your performance and abilities to take care of the guests
• Tips are not put into a "general fund," so if you and the other wranglers on your trail ride keep the guests happy and safe you will do well with tips

Introduction: The American Paint Horse Association is the world�s second-largest equine breed association, located in the heart of horse country, Fort Worth, Texas. The association offers several paid publications/marketing internships annually to college juniors, seniors or recent graduates who have an interest in promoting Paint Horses and the people who love them, as well as learning the ins and outs of working at a breed association. 

Responsibilities: Our readers are the ultimate fans of Paint Horses, and their interests cover all aspects of Paints� versatility. APHA�s publications�the Paint Horse Journal and Chrome�are diverse, as are the association�s marketing efforts; interns will have the opportunity to employ their horse knowledge, explore new avenues and generate tons of clips and published pieces ideal for a professional portfolio. 

The publications/marketing intern works in the Content Department, but also collaborates with APHA graphics, sales and performance staff.

Applicants should be majoring in journalism, agricultural journalism, marketing or a related field, and should possess a strong interest in Paint Horses. Interns should have a desire to learn about breed associations while developing the skills necessary to succeed in the equine publishing/marketing industry. Horse knowledge is required. 

Intern applicants should have strong writing skills, a solid grasp on Associated Press style, grammar and feature writing, and be able to work independently. Candidates should have at least a basic understanding of digital photography and an interest in strengthening photography skills. 

Preference is given to candidates with experience writing for equine publications and those with a passion for the Paint Horse industry. The ideal intern is a self-motivated, creative thinker. Responsibility, a willingness to learn, and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines are paramount. 

Salary: $1,200 per month 

Housing & Transportation: The intern is responsible for transportation, room and board. APHA is located in northeast Fort Worth, and public transportation is not available. The APHA World Championship Show and AjPHA Youth World Championship Show take place about 10 miles from APHA headquarters. Introduction: The American Paint Horse Association is a horse breed registry located in Fort Worth, Texas. The association performs the function of registration, record keeping, show management, sale scheduling, field services, racing coordination, publishing, public relations, information dissemination and administration. In addition, the association fulfills its purpose of promoting the American Paint Horse through efficient service to members, directors and the general public. 

Summary: The intern will work in the Marketing/Sales/Sponsorship department, as well as have the opportunity to work closely with individuals in editorial, graphics and other departments. 

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to: 

• Assist with marketing efforts for the APHA Youth World Show and APHA in general 
• Create/disseminate press releases 
• Assist sales team with sales efforts ranging from lead generation to collecting information for ads and other World Show-related sales products

Registering more than a million horses in 59 nations and territories since it was founded, APHA promotes, preserves and provides meaningful experiences with Paint Horses. In addition, the Association fulfills its purpose of promoting the American Paint Horse through efficient service to members, directors and the general public. The Performance Department was created to organize and develop different programs for the association to meet the needs of its members� wide array of interests and ages. The Performance Department handles the following programs: Youth, Amateur, showing and judging. The Performance Department also oversees the management of the APHA Youth World Show held June 25-July 8, 2018 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas. 

Responsibilities: The Intern will work primarily in the Performance Department and will also have the opportunity to work with individuals in marketing, media and Paint Horse Journal. The intern will rotate to different departments within APHA so that they get an understanding of how each department and job relates to the overall success of a breed association. The intern will assist staff and show management with various duties related to the Performance Department and the World Show including, but not limited to: 

• Projects related to Youth Program, Amateur Program, Shows and Judging 
• Award preparation and distribution 
• World Show preparation 
• Coordination of events during the show 
• Post show reporting of statistics and results 

Basic Requirements: Seeking individual majoring in Animal Science, Equine Science, Agribusiness or related field who desires to learn more about breed associations and develop skills to work within the horse industry. Duration of Internship: This internship will be from May to July/August. However, these dates may be modified to fit the intern�s schedule.
