American Paint Horse Association Seeking Applicants for Fall Performance Department Internships




Position: Performance Department / Open/Amateur World Show Internship
Available: August 2018 � November/December 2018 

Introduction: The American Paint Horse Association is the world�s second-largest international equine breed association headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas. Registering more than a million horses in 59 nations and territories since it was founded. APHA promotes, preserves and provides meaningful experiences with Paint Horses. The Association performs the function of registration, record keeping, show management, field services, racing coordination, publishing, public relations, information dissemination and administration. In addition, the Association fulfills its purpose of promoting the American Paint Horse through efficient service to members, directors and the general public. The Performance Department was created to organize and develop different programs for the association to meet the needs of its members� wide array of interests and ages. The Performance Department handles the following programs: Youth, Amateur, showing and judging. The Performance Department also oversees the management of the APHA World Show held September 17-30, 2018 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas. 

Responsibilities: The Intern will work primarily in the Performance Department and will also have the opportunity to work with individuals in marketing, media and Paint Horse Journal. The intern will rotate to different departments within APHA so that they might get an understanding of how each department and job relates to the overall success of the association. The intern will assist staff and show management with various duties related to the Performance Department and the World Show including, but not limited to:
  • Projects related to Youth Program, Amateur Program, Shows and Judging
  • Award preparation and distribution 
  • World Show preparation 
  • Coordination of events during the show 
  • Post show reporting of statistics and results 

Basic Requirements: Seeking individual majoring in Animal Science, Equine Science, Agribusiness or related field who desires to learn more about breed associations and develop skills to work within the horse industry. 

Duration of Internship: This internship will be from August to November/December. However, these dates may be modified to fit the intern�s schedule. 

Salary: $1,200 per month 

Housing and Transportation: The intern is responsible for transportation, room and board. The APHA office is located in Northeast Fort Worth and there is no public transportation.

Gainesville Pet Rescue Seeking Volunteer Summer Interns


Gainesville Pet Rescue is seeking Animal Well Care interns for the summer semester. Interns will gain experience on how to handle, diagnose, and medicate animals in a shelter setting. 

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Administer vaccines, oral/topical medicine, and fluids
  • Assist with animal restraint for exams
  • Responsible for sanitization of treatment areas
  • Assist with adoptions

Qualifications:
  • College student on Pre-Vet track
  • Must have good organizational skills
  • Have good time management skills, and finish tasks independently

Hours: 10-15 hours weekly

Hourly Rate: Unpaid internship

Herdmark Media Seeking Fall 2018 Video Production Intern

Herdmark Media, Inc. is a digital storytelling agency specializing in creating content for agricultural brands and businesses across the United States.

This full-time video production internship will allow the successful candidate to work collaboratively with the Creative Lead, Production Lead and other team members to execute a wide variety of creative video projects. 

Applicants must be college students, currently enrolled, or having immediately graduated from enrollment in an agricultural field of study. To be eligible for this internship, your major or field of study must be focused on agriculture and you must be pursuing a career connected to agriculture. i.e. Agricultural Education, Agriculture Communications, Animal Science, Crop Science, Horticulture, Natural Resources, etc. Applicants that do not meet this criteria will not be considered.

Responsibilities include:
  • Learning to execute video post-production workflow while maintaining a highly detailed file organization structure for existing projects
  • Learning to set lighting, operate cameras and become a valuable asset on a film production crew.
  • Attending all Herdmark video production shoots and serving as Production Assistant to work collaboratively with other crew members toward achieving the creative vision for the project.
  • Assist with pre-production project components including reviewing and editing scripts, creating and reviewing storyboards, and preparing shot lists, prop lists and documents for client review.
  • Capturing behind-the-scenes images of our crew at work.
  • Capturing stock images and video footage as time permits.
  • Contributing to Field Notes (blog) of the Herdmark Media, Inc. website.

Internship Project:

The Herdmark Media Video Production Intern will be charged with filming and editing of an educational video production course intended for use of agricultural communications students.

Compensation & Benefits:
  • Salary: Stipend of $1,600 per month to total $6,400 over the course of the internship.

Location:
Work will be executed at the Herdmark Media office in Wooster, Ohio, and in the field, on-location. Nationwide travel will be required. Evening and weekend availability is required.

Term:
The Autumn semester internship will begin on August 15 and end on December 15, 2018.

Evaluation:
The Herdmark Media Video Production Intern�s success will be evaluated by his/her willingness to contribute to the collaborative creative process, honesty, efficiency, timeliness, quality of end product delivered to clients, quality of internal project structure and organization, reliability and the ability to stay with a task until it is completed.

Unbridled Hope Equine Therapy Program Seeking Volunteers


Unbridled Hope - an Equine Therapy Program at The Heart of Florida Youth Ranch in Citra, Florida is seeking student volunteers. 

Unbridled Hope serves the residents that live in Citra and its surrounding areas, specifically, foster children in the age ranges from 5 - 17 years old.

Volunteers will be helping with the classes taught at Unbridled Hope. Unbridled Hope has eight horses and works with Natural Horsemanship foundations for both groundwork and riding. The goal of the program is to give kids an opportunity to learn and own skills through the partnership with the horses that will enable and empower them for daily life. Classes are not about riding perfectly and training for a horse show, but focus on learning trust, boundaries, and partnership. 

The classes are in the afternoons between 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Volunteer hours are flexible with no minimum or maximum per week. It is strongly requested that volunteers come the day they commit or call ahead to make the necessary changes for their schedule.

Volunteer training will be provided by Unbridled Hope. Volunteers should be patient and enjoy both children and horses. 

A level 2 background check is required, but the fee will be reimbursed after three months of commitment with the equine program.

Graduate Assistant Position for Meats Judging Available at Tarleton State University


The Department of Animal Science and Veterinary Technology at Tarleton State University is seeking a Graduate Assistant to be Assistant Coach to its Meats Judging Team. The Department has student enrollment approaching 750 students and emphasizes hands-on learning. The College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has nearly 2000 students and is one of the largest programs in the U.S.

Qualifications:
  • B.S. in Animal Science or similar field
  • Collegiate meat judging experience
  • Knowledge of carcass, primal, and/or sub-primal fabrication
  • Successful background check and driver training required

Duties:
  • Assist coaching of Meat Judging Team
  • Organize carcass and primal or sub-primal exhibits for training
  • Transport students to practice sessions
  • Prepare training materials
  • Schedule practices
  • Assist with teaching meat evaluation courses

Compensation:

Assistantship Description: This assistantship is for a student interested in a Masters of Science degree in the Poultry Science Department focusing on Animal Welfare. The student�s Major professor will be Dr. Dianna Bourassa. Specific thesis subject matter will include the assessment of animal welfare during poultry stunning for slaughter and euthanasia. There will be opportunities for abstract submission and presentation at scientific meetings.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor�s degree in poultry science, animal science, or related field is preferred with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of 4.0
  • Interest in poultry processing and animal welfare
  • Student must be able to work as part of a team, be willing to collaborate with others on related projects, be extremely responsive to request and duties, and manage time efficiently. 
  • Only students admitted into the Auburn University Graduate School are eligible to hold a research assistantship

Benefits and Stipend: This assistantship is based on a stipend (13 hour work week) of approximately
$15,067/year and tuition waiver. Student will pay miscellaneous fees (about $600/semester) to the University. Benefits of the position include networking opportunities and exposure to an essential topic in poultry processing and welfare.
